Two statues of medieval period stolen

- Post Report, Bhaktapur

May 12, 2016-Three statues of medieval period have been stolen from Bhaktapur in the last five months, raising suspicion over security of other centuries-old idols of Hindu gods and goddesses in the historic city.

Two bronze idols of Goddess Brahayawani were stolen from Taulachey in Bhaktapur Municipality-1 on Tuesday night.

On December 20, a 17th century idol of Digu Bhairav, weighting around 6 kg was stolen from Thimi.

Police in the district say they have been investigating the case.  Police were informed about the theft at around 7am on Wednesday. Gopal Krishna Koju, a priest, said the five locks put on three gates were found broken.

Historians and cultural exports say cases of thefts of ancients statues have been on rise since the earthquake last year.
