Former national team skipper Binod Das completed a five-wicket haul to steer Kalaiya Cricket Club (KCC) to the Sanshad Cup Twenty20 cricket tournament title as the hosts crushed Ranchi Cricket Club by seven wickets here on Monday.
Played at the Sideshwor Cricket Ground, Ranchi were bowled out for a meagre 93 runs in 17.3 overs thanks to the superb bowling spell from Das. KCC cruised to victory with eight balls and seven wickets to spare. Ranchi made it to the final as the leader of the five-team standings, while the hosts won the eliminator against Birat Cricket Society to set the title showdown.
After Avinash Karn dismissed Ranchi opener Paritosh Kumar (7) and his opening partner Arpit Soundhik (9) was run out, Das entered the fray to almost single-handedly restrict them to a low total. Das returned with figures of 5-18 off four overs. Aarif Sheikh and Basanta Regmi also picked up one wicket each for the hosts. Nikhil Jaishwal (25) and Kamal Dubev (24) were the only Ranchi batsmen to contributed in double figures.
Chasing a low total, openers Sunil Dhamala and Amit Shrestha gave KCC a composed start, putting on 34 runs for the first wicket. Dhamala scored 34-ball 21 and Shrestha chipped in 20-ball 17. Skipper Anil Sah together with Aarif Sheikh (12) completed the chase with more than an over to spare. Shah remained unbeaten on 24, his 19-ball knock included one six and a four. Atul Anand took two and Monty Singh one wicket for Ranchi.
Monty Singh of Ranchi was declared the player-of-the-tournament for his allround performance. Singh scored 92 runs and took 10 wickets in five games. Dhamala bagged the best batsman award and Regmi collected the best bowler honour. Dhamala scored 179 runs in six games, while Regmi grabbed 12 wickets from six matches.
