An unidentified group hurled a Molotov cocktail on the premises of Save the Children office in Chautara, the district headquarters of Sindhupalchok, on Monday night.

Superintendent of Police Rabindra KC said that a bomb disposal team of Nepal Police reached the site immediately after the incident and defused the explosive at around 11pm. The security guard had informed the police soon after the petrol bomb was hurled.

There were no casualties, said police. A vehicle (Ba 13 Cha 5914) parked at the office got minor damage.

Police recovered some leaflets of the Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist from the site. 

Local people suspect Chand Maoist cadres might have attacked the agency blaming embezzlement of funds meant for earthquake survivors.

The leaflet accuses the organisation of forcing the people to buy their necessities from a specified shop and there was no transparency in the funds spent while the goods distributed to the people were substandard.

According to witnesses, around six persons hurled the device and fled the scene immediately.
