“The government of Nepal is deeply saddened by the news of mass shooting in a night club in Orlando, Florida, USA,” read a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday. “Nepal condemns such barbaric act of violence against innocent people and expresses sympathy to the bereaved family members of the victims.”
In the early hours of Sunday, Omar Seddique Mateen, a 29-year-old New York native and son of Afghan immigrants, burst into Pulse, a gay nightclub, in Orlando and opened fire in the deadliest mass shooting in American history. US law enforcement authorities on Monday lowered the death toll from the massacre from 50 to 49, explaining that the shooter had been counted in the original tally. The situation had evolved into a hostage situation before the killer was shot dead by police.
The government has also wished speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.
