The government, in accordance with the constitutional provision(s), will move ahead and face the no-trust motion in Parliament, said Minister for Information and Communication Sherdhan Rai while informing about the Cabinet decision. The Maoist Centre, the third largest party, on Wednesday filed the no-confidence motion against PM Oli with the backing of the Nepali Congress and CPN (Samyukta).
On the Maoist Centre’s stance that it will not let the House approve the fiscal budget until PM Oli resigns, Minister Rai said, “That is up to them… the government will move ahead as per the constitutional provision[s] and follow the procedure.”
The House is set to put the no-confidence motion for discussion on July 21.
Though PM Oli has maintained that he will face the House and not resign, chances of his survival in Parliament look slim, as the new alliance of the Maoist Centre and the NC, with the support from other parties including the Madhes-based forces, could easily prove its majority to pass the no-confidence motion against the government.
On Thursday also, during a meeting of the CPN-UML’s Parliamentary Party, PM Oli had told his lawmakers that he would face the no-confidence motion in Parliament and would not resign.
“Constitutional complexities will prevent the formation of new government,” Oli had told his lawmakers.
Friday’s was the first ever Cabinet meeting after the Maoist Centre pulled out of the Oli government.
