An 18-year-old woman is undergoing treatment at a Nepalgunj hospital after she was brutally assaulted by her husband and her mother-in-law for allegedly failing to bring enough dowry.

Deputy Superint-endent of Police Kiran Bogati, of Banke District Police Office, said the incident was revealed after the young woman was admitted to Nepalgunj Medical College and Teaching Hospital with injuries following an assault.

She later told police that she had been beaten by her husband of two years and her mother-in-law over dowry issue. The duo has been arrested and charged with assault with intent to commit murder.

DSP Bogati said the woman had been assaulted several times in the past by her husband and in-laws.
