The process to amend the constitution will start after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal completes his visits to India and the United States, PM Dahal’s Principal Political Adviser Chakrapani Khanal said on Friday.
Earlier it was believed that the government would register a constitution amendment proposal in Parliament before PM Dahal’s visit to India starting September 15. After returning from his three-day India visit, PM Dahal will fly to New York to participate in the UN General Assembly.
Constitution amendment is a key demand of the Madhes-based parties. “The government wanted to move the amendment proposal forward before PM Dahal’s visit to India. But with no consensus at hand, we have to wait until the prime minister completes his visits to India and the US,” said Khanal.
