The Asia Cup is contested by four Test playing nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Thailand are competing as the hosts, while Nepal made it to the tournament following their runner-up finish in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifying Series for Asia Region.
After a rest day, Nepal meet another Test nation Sri Lanka before meeting Bangladesh on November 29. They next play hosts Thailand on December 1 and wrap up the league campaign with the match against India on December 2. The top two teams from the round robin league will make it to the final.
The matches between the Test playing nations will be played as Twenty20 International. All the games will be played at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok.
The Women’s Asia Cup will be Nepal’s second international tournament in a span of two months after the Qualifying Series.
Before the Qualifying Series, Nepali women had not played any international game for two years. A first place finish in the Qualifying Series would have handed Nepal a spot in the 2017 Global Qualifiers for the World Twenty20. Thailand had qualified for the Global Qualifiers winning the Qualifying Series in Hong Kong. Nepal had lost to Thailand twice and Hong Kong in the Qualifying Series in Hong Kong.
