The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) on Wednesday authorised the mobilisation of Rs 3.57 billion to the Central Level Project Implementation Unit (CLPIU) to distribute the first instalment of private housing reconstruction aid in Kathmandu Valley.

The CLPIU under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD) will start first phase of housing aid distribution to around 100,000 households registered as beneficiaries in the three districts of the Valley soon.

The government started signing tripartite grant agreements in April, a year after the devastating earthquake hit the country, with “true beneficiaries” in 11 out of 14 most affected districts. The agreement signing in three districts in Kathmandu Valley started last month.

As of Wednesday, 3,077 households in the Valley have signed agreements for private housing aid.

“The distribution of the first instalment of Rs 50,000 will start soon. We hope to complete the distribution process next week,” said Ram Prasad Thapaliya, spokesperson for the NRA.

A total of 623,494 households from 14 districts have been registered as “true beneficiaries” by the NRA so far, of which 471,649 households have signed tripartite agreements for the housing aid.

So far, 426,134 households have received the first tranche of the reconstruction. The government has decided to provide Rs 300,000 as private housing aid in three instalments to each household affected by the last year’s earthquake.
