An armed person was killed in police firing at Inarwa-1 in Rautahat district on Monday morning.
According to the Central Regional Police Office, security personnel opened fire on a group of assailants in retaliation near the Lalbakaiya river. The incident site is 20 km north from Nepal-India border.
A police constable was injured in the incident.
Police recovered an automatic Insas rifle loaded with 15 bullets and two pistols from the incident site. The deceased was later identified as Tejilal Sah, an Indian national. Police had found an identity card in his pocket.
“Two persons kept on firing at us as they fled the scene,” said DIG Pashupati Chaudhary, adding the armed man who was killed in police firing was involved in various criminal activities.
Surendra Chaudhary, the injured police official, is receiving treatment at Churehill Hospital in Hetauda, Makwanpur.
Locals said they had heard three rounds of gunshots at around 5:15am. “Police barred us from going to the incident site until the body was removed,” a local told the Post.
Movements of armed groups in bordering villages have become a security challenge, say police. “Criminals are equipped with such sophisticated weapons in bordering areas. This is serious security challenge,” said a senior police official preferring anonymity.
