In Mugu, the local people from Rara, Dhainkot and Kalai VDCs picketed government offices at the district headquarters, demanding that the three VDCs should be merged to form a village council.
The villagers, who started their protest eight days ago, warned that they would continue the protest unless their demand is addressed. The protesters briefly clashed with police as the latter attempted to break padlocks at District Development Committee office.
In Nuwakot, the residents of Khanigaun submitted a memorandum at the District Development Committee demanding to include the village in Bidur Municipality. The technical committee has included Khanigaun VDC in the proposed Likhu village council. “Khanigaun is near Bidur. Why was this village merged with Likhu?” said Arjun Tamang of Khanigaun-3.
Protest against local level restructuring process was staged in Banke district as well. The locals of Hirminiya demonstrated outside the District Administration Office to protest the restructuring proposal of merging the village to Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis. They have demanded a separate village council status.
Similarly, residents of Rangbhang, Swarek, Chhangchhangdi and Mirmi, among other places, in Syangja district staged demonstrations over the restructuring proposals. Their protests were about the demarcation of the village councils and their centres.
NC cadres enforce banda in Parasi
CHITWAN: Nepal Tarun Dal and Nepal Students’ Union, the sister organisations of the ruling Nepali Congress, enforced a banda in Nawalparasi district on Sunday, demanding not to merge the eastern part of the district to Province 5. The protesters said they were against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s proposal of merging the area from Daunne to Gaidakot to Province 5 from 4. Normal life was greatly affected due to the banda.
