The committee has forwarded the proposals prepared by Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre) and Rastriya Janamorcha.
The LLRC’s technical committee could not muster a common restructuring proposal from the parties despite several rounds of meetings, said Local Development Officer Yubaraj Subedi.
“More than 30 meetings were held for agreement. Finally, the committee had to send four separate proposals to the LLRC for discussion,” Subedi said. “Nine of the twenty-three political parties boycotted the entire process.”
Among the four proposals, the NC’s has got support of the most parties. Nine parties, including Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal and Tharuhat Tarai Party, have supported the proposal.
The major parties have dissenting views over the number of local units and their boundaries. The NC proposed altogether 16 local units including a sub-metropolis and five municipalities while the UML recommended for 14 units.
The technical committee in Parbat has not sent the reconstruction proposal yet while Manang sent two separate proposals due to the differences among the parties and the locals. Over a dozen districts have not sent the restructuring proposal to the LLRC due to disputes among the parties and the locals.
