Officials say KMC will take action against the Durbar Marg-based five-star hotel as per Clause 165 (2) of the Local Self Governance Act-2055 BS (1998)

Dec 15, 2016-The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has said it will initiate action against Hotel Yak & Yeti for failing to comply with KMC’s repeated requests to pay tax.

KMC officials said the metropolis will take action against the Durbar Marg-based five-star hotel as per Clause 165 (2) of the Local Self Governance Act-2055 BS (1998).

Dhurba Kafle, chief of the Revenue Division of KMC, said in the initial phase, the metropolis will stop all the facilities provided to the hotel by it. In the second phase, the hotel’s administration will be padlocked, he said, adding: If the hotel refuses to pay tax even after our second phase of action, the metropolis will cut power supply and drinking water service to the hotel and stop collecting waste.

According to Kafle, the hotel has not paid tax for 20 years. Two years ago it paid Rs 1 million, he said.

According to Kafle, the hotel needs to pay Rs 1.2 million annually as tax.

Following the KMC’s string regulations, other 12 star hotels have paid their tax.

According to Kafle, other star hotels have paid around Rs 70 million in tax in the fiscal year 2015-16. There are 13 start hotels in operation in Kathmandu Valley.
