Language Commission moves to new address

The commission has rented an office space in Shankhamul, Kathmandu, which will now serve as its base.
The commission, which was formed three months ago, was unable to operate to its full potential due to lack of proper office setting.
Lavadeo Awasthi said the commission will expedite the works from the new office after filling the vacancies.
The commission has been mandated to recommend the government the list of languages to be used for official works; conserve, protect and promote languages; determine standard of mother tongues; recommend government about their use in education; and study, research and monitor different languages. It must submit its report within five years.
Under Secretary of the Commission Ganesh Prasad Bhattarai said the Commission would begin its work by forming specialists’ groups of different languages.
