7th Nat'l Games: Lamgade, Parki shine as Khadka hits ton

The Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) athlete upset favourite Hari Kumar Rimal of TAC, who had clinched 1,500m gold on Saturday, in the final. Parki finished the race in 15:26.01 while Rimal ended up in second with the timings of 15:26.60. Policeman Bhumiraj Rai finished in third at 15:30.40.
It is first of the three gold medals that APF had won Sunday, the other noble being Kanchi Maya Koju’s 5,000m gold. Koju won the women’s 5,000m race in 18:13.40. Sanu Maya Karki (18:33.39) of TAC finished in second and Bishworupa Budha (18:37.04) in third.
Police athletes Chandrakala Lamgade and Keshari Chaudhary struck second individual gold medals on Sunday. Lamgade, who had won the shot-put gold in a new national record of 11.56m a day before, once again won the women’s javelin throw gold with a national record. Lamgade threw 43-94m to better her own mark of 43.90m which she had set during the 12th South Asian Games selection tournament.
Armyman Ram Bahadur Kumar bagged the men’s javelin throw with 56.88-metre throw. Narendra Jung Shahi of NPC was a distant second in 53.40m and Prem Prakash Khadka third in 51.67m. Another Army athlete Dilli Khatri struck gold in men’s long jump. Khatri leaped 6.91-metre beat NPC duo Gopal Chaudhary (6.59) and Chandra Dev Joshi (6.38).
NPC’s Keshari Chaudhary, who bagged a high jump gold on Saturday, won the long jump goal with a leap of 5.04-metre. Krishna Chaudhary (4.94) of TAC and Shila Chaudhary (4.84) of APF completed the podium places in women’s long jump.
Bishesh Mahato of Army club won the men’s 110m hurdles in 15.85 seconds. Ram Prasad Tharu (16.54) finished in second and Chandra Dev Joshi (17.43) in third.
Sabita Chaudhary of APF clinched the women’s 100m hurdles gold medal with the timings of 16.5. Pramila Tharu (17.00) ended up in second and Keshari (17.10) third.
TAC also struck gold in women’s 4x400m relay. APF finished in second and Mid-Western Region in third. The Army team also clinched the men’s 4x400m relay ahead of APF (second) and Central Region. The Army club round up the second day with 10 gold medals in athletics.
Khadka leads APF to win
The national team skipper Paras Khadka-led Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club showed their title credentials with a 144-run rout of Far-Western Region in the men’s criket in Baijnathpur, Biratnagar, on Sunday.
Khadka was a class apart as the APF skipper slammed a 41-ball century and opener Subash Khakurel hit a half century to post a mammoth 200-4 off 20 overs. Khadka clobbered nine fours and eight sixes in his unbeaten 105 runs off 43 deliveries. In fact Khadka took 26 balls to complete a half century and needed another 15 balls to race to his century. Khakurel hit six boundaries in his 51-ball 64 unbeaten knock. Dinesh Aagri took three APF wickets.
In reply, Far West could only manage 56-6 with Dipak Malla top-scoring with 21 runs. Basanta Regmi the pick of the APF bowlers with figures of 3-10 from three overs.
In another game of the day, Western Region beat Central Region by six runs. Western posted 127-6 with a half century from skipper Dipesh Khatri (53) and a 48-run from Shankar Rana. Rashid Khan took 5-15 for Central Region. In reply, Central could only muster 121-7. Jitendra Thakuri struck 29-ball 44 for Central. Lal Bahadur Adhikari and Khatri claimed two wickets each for Western.
Police dominate TT
Nepal Police Club (NPC) team dominate table tennis events on Sunday securing three gold medals. NPC clinched gold medals in men’s doubles as well as men’s and women’s team event. Pradeep Roka ad Binesh Khaniya teamed up to beat Shiva Sunder Gothe and Amar Lal Malla of APF Club 11-9, 11-9, 3-11, 11-9 in the men’s doubles final, while both men’s and women’s team of NPC defeated APF Club three sets to one to clinch the team event gold medals. Rabina Maharjan and Swechhya Nembang of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) secured women’s doubles gold medal with a 7-11, 11-7, 1106, 7-11, 11-3 win in the final against NPC’s Nabita and Elina Maharjan. Police club also ensured another gold medal as the pair of Syantu Shrestha and Elina along with that of Deep Saun and Nabita made it to the mixed doubles final.
Army win 8 gold medals
The Army club also struck eight gold medals in ITF-Taekwondo in Damak, Jhapa, on Sunday. Six of those gold medals came in patron and two in sparring. Purna Bahadur Magar in men’s 45-60kg and Nishma Bashyal in women’s 41-45kg division gave Army the sparring gold medals.
