Parliament won’t discuss, endorse proposal, says Oli
Chairman of the CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has reiterated that the amendment proposal can neither be discussed nor endorsed from Parliament because that was ‘anti-national’ and unconstitutional.Chairman of the CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has reiterated that the amendment proposal can neither be discussed nor endorsed from Parliament because that was ‘anti-national’ and unconstitutional.
Addressing a press meeting of nine opposition parties at UML Parliamentary Party office in Singha Durbar on Sunday to announce the mass demonstration in Kathmandu, the former PM warned the government that the opposition parties would not tolerate ‘politics of negation’ which would only lead to further conflict. The opposition parties have decided to organise a mass demonstration on January 6 at Exhibition Road to build pressure on the government to lead the nation towards elections.
Oli accused PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal of inciting people in the Tarai with a claim that the opposition parties will not be allowed to enter the southern plains. He urged Dahal to stop such activities and focus on elections instead.
“He has been reaching one door to the next with scissors and matches for inaguration purposes,” Oli said, criticising the PM for overlooking for not focusing on his priorities—leading the nation towards elections by preparing necessary laws and declaring the election date.
“We only have 11 months for three tiers of elections now. There is a long way to go but the PM has been dealing with unnecessary and unconstitutional issues,” he said, adding that this transitional government has no constitutional authority to change the boundaries of provinces. He also said that the government has not formed Constituency Delineation Commission yet.
The constitution has clearly stated that there are some issues which are against the nation’s broader interest should be banned from discussion in Parliament, Oli said.
“There were instances of smaller nations being annexed by bigger countries through voting and discussions,” he said, “The amendment proposal suddenly registered cannot be considered to be discussed in Parliament.”
During the press meet, claiming that the intention of the amendment proposal was to disintegrate the nation, Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party leader Prem Suwal said the opposition parties would not let it be discussed in Parliament. He also condemned news reports that India wanted to send Nepali troops to UN Peace keepers under its umbrella.
