Tharuhat announces protest for separate Tharu state

The Tharuhat Tharuwan Struggle Committee has announced various protest programmes to press for a separate Tharuhat state in the western part of Tarai.
The committee has called for incorporating all Tharu community dominated districts in the western Tarai into one single Tharuhat state by amending the constitution.
Organising a press meet in Dhangadhi, Kailali, on Tuesday, the committee unveiled its protest plan that includes organising regional gathering of Tharu people, various awareness programmes, mass meetings in different districts and general strikes in the coming days.
The committee also announced that the protests will be organised under the banner of Kailali, Kanchanpur Tharuhat Tharuwan Struggle Committee. ‘
Prabhat Kumar Chaudhary, coordinator of the committee, said the government should present the proposal in the Parliament to include both Kailali and Kanchanpur in Province 5 along with the constitution amendment proposal registered in Parliament.
He said that the Tharu community was organising a decisive protest this time.
Krishna Kumar Chaudhary, the committee’s Kailali coordinator, warned of disrupting the three-level elections if they are conducted without fulfilling their demand.
The Tharu leaders also demanded withdrawal of the cases filed against their people in connection to the Tikapur carnage of 24 August, 2015 and compensation to the families of the victims.
