During a meeting held at Baluwatar on Saturday, Naya Shakti Nepal coordinator Bhattarai urged Dahal to end the impasse over constitution amendment, restructuring of local bodies and the elections.
Bhattarai, Dahal’s former deputy who deserted the Maoist party soon after the Constituent Assembly promulgated the new constitution, is toiling to build his Naya Shakti party.
The prime minister told Bhattarai that he was held up by some complexities but was working to resolve them soon. The PM also asked Bhattarai for his support to the local polls as holding them would be the first step towards implementing the new constitution. Bhattarai responded that a second amendment to the constitution would clear the way for the elections.
According to his secretariat, Bhattarai had also raised the issue of displacement by the planned Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project, saying that the compensation amount offered to the affected households was low.
Bhattarai also asked the PM to address the demands of Naya Shakti campaigners Ram Kumar Sharma and Kalamuddin Rayen, who have been fasting for the last 10 days demanding broader development of Janakpur.
