Nearly half of the 60 Tribhuvan University constituent colleges have published the list of voters for the Free Student Union elections by Monday.
The process has been stalled in the rest of the colleges as the All Nepal National Independent Student Union (Revolutionary), affiliated to the Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist, is found to have padlocked the election offices demanding a halt to the election process.
The union claims that it had been excluded from discussions prior to announcing the FSU elections.
According to a TU official, they are likely to publish the voter lists of all the colleges within three days.
Hari Prasad Parajuli, election officer at the Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus in the Capital, said there was no environment to continue with the election process. “I have been getting threatening calls from the protesters,” he said. On Sunday, they invited the protesting side to come to the negotiating table.
Sudha Tripathi, coordinator of the FSU election central monitoring and coordination committee, said the election process would go as per the calendar.
Organising a press meet on Monday, 10 student unions pledged to participate in the elections. All Nepal National Free Student Union Chairperson Nabina Lama urged all the unions to participate in the polls.
