On the occasion of International Girls in ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Day 2017, Nepal Telecommunications Authority had organised a discussion series and an innovation showcase platform, on April 24. To continue addressing the theme the day embraced—‘Expand Horizons, Change Attitudes’—and to bridge the digital gender divide, Bits Innovation in collaboration with Nepal Telecommunications Authority is hosting a two-day workshop that helps girls using Git—a version control system primarily used by software developers for tracking changes in computer files; and GitHub which is a web based development platform where the developer can publish their Git repositories and collaborate with other people.
Speaking to the Post about the event, Pratik Basyal, COO of Bits Innovation, emphasised that the workshop will focus on encouraging more women in IT sector. He said, “The last time we organised an open event of the same nature, very few girls attended the programme. It was disheartening, given the fact that the number of girls in the IT sector has been growing in number, but proactive participation isn’t. This time around, we are specifically inviting girls to encourage their participation.”
According to the organisers, the workshop is open for engineers, developers, programmers, data scientists, hackers, coders and writers.
The workshop, which will accommodate 50 girls pursuing ICT, will take place this weekend, on May 6 and 7, in the Capital.
