The EC will mobilise volunteers who will show voters on model ballot papers how to stamp on an election symbol.
According to the EC, voter ID cards will be distributed through the polling centres for the three days. In the process, voters will also be shown how to cast vote.
The voter himself or herself or a family member of them should come to receive the IDs. “Through this method, we hope to reach every voter,” said Nawaraj Dhakal, joint-secretary at the election authority.
The EC’s perception is that people have a lot of confusion about ballot papers more than anything else regarding the polls. The ballot papers are large and a voter has to vote for seven candidates to elect their local representatives.
A meeting of the commission on Tuesday instructed volunteers to attend the polling centres for three days for information dissemination.
The EC has mobilised one volunteer for each polling centre for publicity. The election body had initially planned to relieve them from May 10.
The National Human Rights Commission also expressed its concern over the lack of voters’ education.
“Neither the EC nor the political parties have reached villages to educate people,” said Anup Raj Sharma, the NHRC chairperson.
