Mithila art on display in Thamel
An art exhibition organised by Folk Art department of Nepal Fine Arts Academy is currently ongoing at Mithila Yain Art Gallery, in Thamel. The five-day exhibit features the works created by artists during a workshop held at Janakpur and Siraha in 2016.
Speaking about the exhibit, head of Folk Arts Department, SC Suman, said, “It is the responsibility of the Academy to establish the importance of Folk art in the society and make common people aware about it. As an effort to protect and promote this form of art, we organised this exhibition.”
One of the participating artists, Sunaina Thajur, said, “We are hopeful that the exhibit will help in making female artists more independent and promoting Mithila art at the national level.” Similarly, the curator of the gallery, Shyam Sundar Yadav, said, “Mithila art has been promoting Nepali folk art in the international art scene as well, so the Academy should pay more attention to research and promotion of this genre.”
The exhibit wil also feature a discussion on folk art on Sunday, according to Suman, during which renowned artists such as Ram Dayal Rakesh, Madan Chitrakar, Mukesh Malla and others will talk about importance of folk art.
The exhibit will run till May 29.
