A video celebrates Nepali carpet industry

A new music video, titled Nine Million Stars, which celebrates Nepali handicrafts and carpet industry, was released amid a ceremony held in the Capital recently. Directed by Tsering Ritar Sherpa, the music video features actors Reecha Sharma and Tika Bhakta Jirel. The video was unveiled by Jan Kath, a famous carpet designer.
Speaking at the event, director Sherpa—from the Mukhundo: Mask of Desire fame—said, “The video makes a case for the burgeoning handmade carpet industry in Nepal. It’s a pleasure to bring to the screen the real-life characters from the industry.”
Sherpa added, “I have a penchant for the portrayal of the characters. The video speaks volumes on the hardships the characters of Nepali carpet industry have endured and their psyche.” Actress Sharma said that it was a matter of pride for her to play alongside real-life characters. “Even though it is just a music video, it captures the reality of Nepali working class,” she said.
The music for the video is composed by Rikesh Gurung, while it features Ankit Babu Adhikari’s vocals.
Speaking at the event, designer Kath said, “I hope the video will inspire the thousands of migrant Nepali labours to return home and work for the betterment of the country’s own industries. Nepali carpet industry could be a veritable alternative.”
