Indian minister inspects flood control works

Water Resources Minister of Bihar, India, Lalan Singh inspected flood control works at Paschim Kushaha in Sunsari district on Saturday. 

After inquiring about the work progress, the Indian minister also instructed timely completion of the works and maintaining the embankment and spurs to control possible floods in the rainy season. 

According to the Koshi Agreement, the Indian government is responsible for repairing and maintaining the Saptakoshi embankments. 

Thousands of people in Nepal and India were rendered homeless as floodwaters swept through settlements by breaching the eastern embankment in 2008.
