“I am here to lead the institution. I am not here to interfere,” Minister Sharma said at a press conference in the Capital, adding that he has already instructed police officials to stop visiting politicians “for promotions and transfers”.
“Promotions will be based on performance. Officials will not be promoted on the basis of pressure from politicians,” he said.
Stating that the Ministry of Home Affairs will work for the uplift of the status of constables, head-constables and other junior police officials, Minister Sharma said: “Security cannot be ensure without the high morale of the morale of junior police officials. I will devise plans to motivate them to work sincerely.”
On issues regarding the jurisdiction of Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force, Minister Sharma said he would soon resolve the matter soon.
Some jurisdiction issues have arisen following the APF’s demand that it should also be authorised to make arrests and take suspects into custody, a task that has been authorised only to Nepal Police.
