LDOs asked to Determine size of DCCs
Jun 27, 2017-
The Election Commission on Monday directed all the Local Development Officers to determine the number of members on the District Coordination Committee (DCC) and to hold the district assemblies within three days.
On Sunday, the EC decided to issue an order to the LDOs in line with Clause 49 of the Election Commission Act-2073 and publish it as a supplement to the Nepal Gazette.
The EC’s decision comes as part of its initiative to remove the constitutional difficulty resulting from the absence of specific mention of which body should call the meeting of the district assembly.
According to EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma, the election process of the DCC would not begin without determining its strength.
According to Article 220 (3) of the constitution, the District Assembly elects the DCC with a maximum of nine members while the size of the coordination committee is determined by the district assembly. Section 2 of the article says the first meeting of the district assembly is held within 30 days of election of the village and municipal assemblies. (PR)
