Although the election authority has been issuing new IDs through 4,581 polling stations for Wednesday’s vote, the EC said the decision was taken to ensure that no eligible voter misses the opportunity to vote.
Election Commissioner Ishwori Poudyal said the decision was taken considering that the loss and damages to the new IDs could bar people from casting their ballot.
Voters can collect their new identity cards until Tuesday. There are a total of 6,432,765 voters in the 334 local units of provinces 1, 5 and 7 where polling takes place on June 28.
