The two-day workshop, Collaborative Journalism (Kathmandu + London), aims to spark inspiration for participating journalists and engage the public in investigative techniques.
Ferguson will train the participants in data journalism and community journalism while focusing on how one should go about outlining a collaborative project, come up with story ideas, and think internationally. One of the highlights of the workshop will be investigating the 2015 earthquake.
Organised by Sattya Media Arts Collective at its premises in Jawalakhel, the workshop is slated to start on July 27.
On the same week, the Collective is also organising another journalism workshop that taps into the art of headlines writing under instructor Henry Tang, a senior broadcast journalist at BBC World Service Radio in London. Divided into three parts, the workshop will put light on writing good headlines and copy. The workshop also aims to provide insight on good and bad headlines, and writing for various media such as radio and TV, online and print, and social media. The interactive workshop, which will ask the students to write a headline, summary, and opening paragraph for different media, is slated to take place on July 26 in Jawalakhel.
