Imago Mundi, an Italian arts initiative seeking to map contemporary artists around the world unveiled the catalogue featuring the work of Nepali artists on Wednesday, at Siddhartha Art Gallery. At the book launch the organisers also honoured late artist Dina Bagdel whose essay is featured in the catalogue.

Imago Mundi, which has been promoting contemporary art around the world, ventured in the art scene of Nepal last year by providing 141 artists from the country with an opportunity to represent Nepal in the initiative. With more than 1657 artworks from artists worldwide, the initiative plans on bringing together a wide-array of artists and use their work to create an artistic map of the world.

The catalogue features the pictures of the artworks along with brief biography and artistic visions of each artist. Speaking about the catalogue and the event, Nischal Oli, the coordinator of Imago Mundi, said, “Imago Mundi has been working with artists around the globe to map the geography of the world through art. As part of its initiative, it assembled the artworks by 141 artists last year in Nepal. Through this event, we are launching the catalogue of the same artworks.” He added, “The catalogue also features an essay on Nepali contemporary art by late art historian Dina Bangdel. It is one of her last works in association with the foundation, so we are also reading her piece after the launch to honour her and her contribution towards Nepali art scene.” 

Along with the catalogue, the artists’ creations will also be exhibited around the world.
