Tribhuvan Army Club registered a 25-20, 25-19, 25-14 win over Eastern Region, Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club eased past Far Western Region 25-12, 25-17, 25-13 and Nepal Police Club eased to a 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 win over Mid Western Region. Western Region overcame Central Region 25-21, 25-22, 25-16.
In the women’s tournament, APF dispatched Eastern 25-2, 25-4, 25-7 and Central saw off Mid Western Region 25-7, 25-11, 25-10 in straight sets. Western beat Far Western Region 25-2, 25-4, 25-8 and NPC overcame Tribhuvan Army Club 25-13, 27-25, 25-6. The tournament featuring eight teams—five regional and three departmental—is played under league-cum-knockout format.
The eight teams are divided into two groups of four. The winners and runners-up from each of the two pools will advance into the semi-finals. The champions will receive Rs 50,000 and the runners-up will earn Rs 30,000 in the five-day tournament. The third-place finisher will also get Rs 20,000 each.
Central win squash team title
LALITPUR: Central Region secured the team event title of the 10th National Squash tournament held under National Sports Championships in Satdobato on Tuesday. Central beat Western Region 2-0 in the final. Chhiri Lama of Central Region beat Mitralal Gurau of Western Region 11-6, 11-3, 11-6 in the first match before Aarhant Keshar Singh of Central Region beat Amrit Thapa Magar of Western Region 11-7, 12-10, 11-8. The men’s and women’s singles matches will start from Wednesday. (PR)
