Team inspects govt buildings in Birgunj
A team formed by the government to determine the capital of Province 2 arrived for an inspection tour of Birgunj on Tuesday to see if the city has adequate infrastructure to accommodate various government agencies and parliament to become a state capital.A team formed by the government to determine the capital of Province 2 arrived for an inspection tour of Birgunj on Tuesday to see if the city has adequate infrastructure to accommodate various government agencies and parliament to become a state capital.
The team, led by Eastern Regional Administrator Rameshworman Singh, inspected the buildings of Birgunj Metropolis, Nagar Sabha Griha, Parsa District Coordination Committee, Birgunj Sugar Mill, Agriculture Inputs Company and Narayani Irrigation Office, among others.
Chief District Officer of Parsa said Binod Prakash Singh claimed daily functioning of state agencies can run smoothly if Birgunj is designated the capital of Province 2.
It is yet to be decided if Birgunj will be named the capital of Province 2, with Janakpur also in the race.
The team has already conducted its study of Janakpur.
Demonstrations were staged in Birgunj and Kalaiya of Bara district recently after there were reports about the government preparing to name Janakpur as the capital of Province 2.
The local of Birgunj and Kalaiya are of the view that Birgunj is centrally located and meets all requirements to become a state capital.
