The organisers also made a call for submissions for the films to be screened at the fest.
“TNFF showcases films that pertain to Nepal or Nepali(s) by filmmakers from around the world. The festival accepts films of all genres and lengths with English subtitles,” Sangam Pulami Magar, co-ordinator of the fest, said. “All films screened in the festival are paid an honorarium depending on the length of the film. An Audience Choice and a Jury Choice award is presented at the end of the festival carrying monetary values of CAD $1500 and CAD $500 respectively.”
TIFF is organised every year by a group of expat Nepali film enthusiasts living in Canada, with an “aim to encourage contemporary indie filmmakers from the country and provide a platform for filmmakers to share ideas about filmmaking and culture.”
The 2017 iteration of the fest featured 14 films, out of which Dadyaa—The Woodpeckers of Rotha—directed by Bibhusan Basnet and Pooja Gurung, was honoured with the Jury Choice Award, while Heaven is Black, directed by Rajkumar Rai, bagged the Public Choice Award.
The 2018 edition of TIFF is slated to take place at Innis Town Hall, in the University of Toronto, on May 19.
