Home Ministry arranges 90 vehicles for provinces
Feb 22, 2018-
The Home Ministry has arranged 90 vehicles for the provinces to meet the vehicle needs of senior officials in the provinces.
All the provinces have elected chief minister, speaker and deputy speaker. Beside them, provincial chiefs, chief secretaries and secretaries are also expected to get vehicle facilities.
Based on the basic requirement of vehicles, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has estimated that around 200 vehicles are required for the provinces with each province requiring 25-30 vehicles.
“We have also instructed chief district officers in the districts where the provincial headquarters are stationed to arrange for additional vehicles from the districts that fall under the respective provinces,” said Ishwor Poudel, joint secretary at the Home Ministry.
“We don’t have details about the vehicle arrangements made by CDOs in provinces.”
The Home Ministry has arranged 12-14 for each province. The ministry said it had prepared a list of 93 vehicles to be distributed to provinces. But only 90 could be distributed so far. “About 70 percent of the vehicles have already reached their respective destinations,” said Yadu Nath Poudel, under secretary at the Home Ministry.
According to the ministry, different types of vehicles have been arranged, including 36 sports utility vehicles, 39 pick-up vans.
However, officials at the PMO said that they were receiving complaints about inadequacy of vehicles. “We will discuss with chief secretaries in each of the provinces on this matter soon,” said PMO Secretary Prem Rai.
The PMO has not sought budget from the Finance Ministry for new vehicles to be provided to the provinces so far.
“We are making temporary arrangements from different ministries. Chief secretaries of the provinces have been told to arrange vehicles from the offices which will be disbanded soon,” said Rai.
