Police have issued a Red Notice against fugitive Rajiv Gurung alias Deepak Manange, an independent provincial lawmaker and a gangster.

Nepal Police Headquarters a week ago sought help from Interpol after failing to locate Manange in Nepal. Manange was elected a member of the Province 4 Assembly but has not taken his oath.

Deputy Inspector General Manoj Neupane, spokesperson for the Nepal Police Headquarters, said Manange is an absconding criminal. “We are searching for him in Nepal and abroad,” he added.

The notice was issued at the initiative of the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal police. The move will notify police in 192 Interpol member countries to search for Manange.

Police officials involved in investigation said they are yet to locate the country Manange is in. “However, we now have enough information to verify that he is not in Nepal,” said the officer, requesting anonymity. “He might have reached India via land before flying abroad.”

The Police Headquarters requested Interpol to issue the notice following a Supreme Court verdict.
