Attempted murder of pregnant rape victim

Mar 20, 2018-

Police are searching for two men for allegedly trying to murder a woman after raping and impregnating her in Chakraghatti, Sunsari.

The 30-year-old single mother of three, who had gone missing on March 9, was rescued by a group of women in a forest at Bhaunne in Morang district on March 11.

Police Inspector Ramji Katuwal of Belbari Area Police Office in Morang said the women, who rescued the victim, had gone to the forest to collect firewood when they saw two men trying to hang a pregnant woman from a tree branch.

“The two men fled after seeing the women. They left behind the victim, who was alive but unconscious,” the police inspector said.

The woman was admitted to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.

The baby in her womb had died, possibly due to trauma. It was removed by doctors.

The woman, who is currently recovering at the hospital, said she had been carrying the baby for the past eight months.

“Those men had raped me many times, but I was too scared to tell anybody anything. They had threatened to kill me,” she said from the hospital bed.

The woman has been living with her parents along with her three children after her husband went out of contact six years ago.
