Displaced families still live in temporary huts
Apr 26, 2018-
Many earthquake-affected families in Palpa are still living in temporary huts because they have not received house rebuilding aid from the government. The National Reconstru-ction Authority (NRA) has included 4,652 families on its aid recipient list, thought the Central Bureau of Statistics had identified 10,398 earthquake-affected families in the district.
Of the 4,652 families on the NRA aid list, only 330 families have started to construct their houses so far.
More than 600 families in the district are still deprived of the housing aid. Since the NRA has not set up its District Project Implementation Unit Office in Palpa, the District Coordination Committee (DCC) has been overseeing the housing aid agreement and distribution process.
Nirmal Pyakurel, the chief of District Technical Office, is currently the acting head of the reconstruction work that is taking place in Palpa.
He said the NRA was planning to set up its unit in the district in the upcoming fiscal year to expedite the reconstruction work. According to the data of the DCC, 3,829 quake-affected families in Palpa have received Rs 50,000 as the first instalment of the housing reconstruction aid.
These families have complained that the lack of skilled workers in the district is delaying the rebuilding work.
