EPL signs deal with Nepalflix

Everest Premier League (EPL) Pvt Ltd on Thursday signed Nepalflix, a product of Bangladeshi digital entertainment company Bongo, as the digital broadcast partner of EPL Twenty20.
The franchise based Twenty20 cricket tournament is now into its third edition and is tentatively set to be held in November. EPL Pvt Ltd Managing Director Aamir Akhtar and Bongo Chief Operating Officer Karel Kuiperi signed the agreement on Thursday. “It’s a landmark deal for us because we are now associated with a company that has a widespread reach and the tournament will now cater international audience as well,” said Akhtar who didn’t disclose the amount the two parties have agreed upon.
The deal will see Nepalflix stream the EPL matches live through its various platforms under the clean feed system. Kuiperi was excited with the agreement. “Cricket has a tremendous growth in Nepal. Recently, the Nepali team achieved the ODI status and we had already been following Nepali cricket since the 2014 ICC World Twenty20. We will be putting the best technology and give an international flavour through our platforms,” said Kuiperi.
EPL includes six cities and Akhtar informed that the teams will remain same for the third edition. After the first edition that was based on corporate model, the second edition of the tournament city-based franchise tournament with auction of players and inclusion of international cricketers as well. Akhtar said they are working out on other aspects of the tournament including the auction and inclusion of foreign recruits.
Biratnagar Warriors, Pokhara Rhinos, Lalitpur Patriots, Bhairahawa Gladiators, Chitwan Tigers and Kathmandu Kings were the six franchises of the tournament. National team skipper Paras Khadka-led Warriors had won the second edition defeating Sharad Vesawkar’s Gladiators in the final at the TU Stadium last year.
