At a time when the struggle for the cause of Dr Govinda KC is swelling, the opposition Nepali Congress has urged other parties including the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) and the Naya Shakti Party-Nepal (NSP-N) to join hands in the fight against the government.

Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba held separate meetings with the leaders of the third largest party RJP-N that supports the government and the NSP-N, urging them to stand firm against the Medical Education

Bill registered in Parliament and in favour of Dr KC’s hunger strike.

Both the RJP-N and the NSP-N have been protesting against the government, urging it to address Dr KC’s demand and to save his life.

During the meeting held on the premises of the federal parliament building in Naya Baneshwor, Congress Parliamentary Party leader Deuba had proposed them to have a common stance on the bill and Dr KC’s struggle and raise the issues strongly in the House.

According to RJP-N presidium member Rajkishor Yadav, RJP-N leaders told Deuba that his party has been pressing the government to save Dr KC’s life. Yadav, however, said they would have to discuss within the party whether to act like the main opposition Congress as they had supported the KP Oli during the elections.

“We will discuss with the PM on various issues and then reach to a conclusion Deuba’s proposal,” NC’s Chief Whip Balkrishna Khand quoted RJP-N leaders as telling Deuba during the meeting.

The RJP-N leaders had urged NC President Deuba to support their demands for making amendments to the constitution and releasing 31 leaders and cadres including lawmaker-elect Resham Chaudhary from prison.

In response, former PM Deuba said that the Congress always in favour of addressing their demands, adding that his government had taken initiatives for amendment of the constitution. He also made a proposal with former PM and NSP-N leader Baburam Bhattarai. Bhattarai told the NC leader that he would discuss within his party to decide about joining hands with the NC in the fight against the government regarding the demands of Dr KC.
