Organising a press conference at the party’s central office in Lalitpur on Friday, NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma said that the party welcomed the agreement between the government and Dr KC and now the true implementation of the agreement would be a significant step towards reforming the country’s medical education.
NC had extended its support to the demands of Dr KC and rallied behind his cause, particularly changing the proposed national medical education Bill.
Sharma said it was a welcome step that the agreement acknowledged the ordinance that the NC-led government had brought which does not allow the establishment of new medical colleges in the Kathmandu Valley for 10 years, restrict a university to provide affiliation to no more than five colleges and provide 75 percent scholarship to students in the bachelor’s programmes.
The NC spokesperson added that it was now the responsibility of both the ruling Nepal Communist Party and the NC to ensure that Dr KC may not have to stage another hunger strike for the same cause in the future. He also said that with the confidence of honest implementation of the agreement reached with Dr KC, the notice that the NC had issued in protest of the bill brought by the government was withdrawn from Parliament.
