Forty-two members of Nepal Press Union, Morang, have resigned en masse due to internal feuds.
They announced their decision to part ways from the organisation on Wednesday, two days ahead of the union’s eighth district convention.
District chairman hopeful Bhojraj Basnet is among those to resign.
The mass resignation was allegedly prompted by Kumar Luintel’s decision to run for the district chairman’s post against Basnet.
The supporters of Basnet were planning to elect him unanimously, but the talks fell through Journalist Rupendra Sherma said they decided to resign because the journalists from the eastern belt in Morang were neglected even though nearly 40 percent of the union’s district committee members comes from the region.
Min Kumar Nabodit, the union’s district committee chairman, said efforts were on to settle the dispute with the disgruntled group.
