NMB Bank joined Sipradi Trading in the pre-quarterfinals of the Corporate Super Sixes cricket tournament with 12-run win over Kumari Bank at the Tribhuvan University Stadium on Tuesday.
In the winner-takes-all Group ‘E’ clash, NMB posted 77-0 in five overs with Barun Ghimire scoring unbeaten 32 and Khum Bahadur Thapa 26 not out. Kumari Bank could only manage 65-2 in reply with Sarbagya Thapa making 15-ball 31. NMB advance as Group ‘E’ runner-up to Sipradi Trading, who already secured top place with two wins on Monday.
Nabil Bank topped the Group ‘A’ after defeating Surya Nepal by five wickets on Tuesday. Both the teams were assured of the pre-quarter-final berths after recording wins against Om Development Bank on Monday. Surya Nepal scored 75-4 with Ankil Bir Pandey making 19-run contribution. Binod Dahal slammed 33 and Arjun Shrestha scored 21 to steer Nabil home for the loss of one wicket in 4.3 overs.
In Group ‘B’, Nepal Telecom defeated Sunrise Bank by four runs. Nepal Telecom posted 70-1 with unbeaten 31-run knocks from Hari Krishna Sharma and Bikash Yadav. Sunrise fell just short of the chase scoring 66-3 as Kedar Singh top-scored for the team with unbeaten 32.
Mega Bank missed out on a chance to secure pre-quarterfinal berths with a defeat and a loss in Group ‘F’ on Tuesday. Mega lost its first match to Nepal SBI Bank by 3o runs before keeping its hopes alive by defeating IME Group by 22 runs. In the first match, SBI amassed 94-1 and restricted Mega for 64-2. In the second, Mega scored 82-3 before limiting IME to 60-4. All three teams though have chance to making it to the next round.
The Group ‘G’, ICFC Finance beat Janata Bank, who bounced back in its next game to beat NCC Bank by five wickets. In the first game, Janata Bank posted 63-1 but ICFC chased down the target for the loss of one wicket in 3.5 overs. In the next game Janata Bank, however, overcame the 63-run target set by NCC for the loss of one wicket in just 3.1 overs.
NIC Asia Bank secured its passage to the pre-quarterfinals with top place finish after wining both its matches against Nepal Life Insurance and Embassy of India. NIC beat Nepal Life by 10 runs. Having scored 60-4, NIC restricted Nepal Life to 50-3. In its second game, NIC eased to four-wicket win over Indian Embassy, who had posted a modest 38-3 in five overs.
