One dead, another injured in landslide

An elderly woman was buried to death in a dry landslide at Dhandkhola in Bidur Municipality-10, Nuwakot, on Tuesday evening.According to Superintendent of Police Krishna Bahadur Pallimagar, 73-year-old Prem Kumari Tamang died while 56-year-old Ram Kumari Tamang sustained serious injuries in the incident. Ram Kumari was taken to Kathmandu for treatment.
The landslide, which broke out at the construction site of the Gerkhu-Chogate road project, buried Prem Kumari Tamang and Ram Kumari Tamang while they were
walking on a trail below. Locals rescued the duo from the debris and took them to Trishuli Hospital, where Prem Kumari breathed her last.
The victims’ relatives and locals claimed that the incident took place due to the negligence of the road project’s contractor.
They demanded the authorities to take action against the contractor, provide compensation to the bereaved family and provide treatment expense to the injured.
Meanwhile, the contractor on Wednesday agreed to provide Rs 600,000 compensation to the deceased’s family and treatment expense to the injured.
