Journalist Pushkar Lal Shrestha dies

Pushkar Lal Shrestha, the editor-in-chief of Nepal Samacharpatra, a vernacular daily, died on Wednesday at the age of 60. Shrestha died while undergoing treatment at Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu at 11:49am, according to Kamana Prakashan Samuha, the publisher of the Nepal Samacharpatra.

He had undergone a nose surgery and had kidney stones removed some five and a half months ago. He had recovered well after the surgeries but was not keeping well for quite some time after he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare disorder in which body’s immune system attacks nerves.

He was also taken to a hospital in India for the treatment of the disease. He had returned home after some improvement but was again admitted to Norvic Hospital after some health complications.

A journalist for 30 years, Shrestha was the founder of Kamana Prakashan Samuha, which besides Nepal Samacharpatra publishes Kamana, a monthly movie magazine.

He also served as the chairman of Nepal Media Society.

Shrestha’s body was kept at Bhugol Park for final tributes in the afternoon before he was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat later on Wednesday.

Shrestha is survived by his wife and three sons.
