SLMM cadres attack NC leaders’ homes

The Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha supporters on Monday barged into the compound of Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi’s house at Mills Area and torched two motorcycles parked inside.
Security personnel deployed in the area lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse the mob as the SLMM activists were attempting to burn the NC leader’s house. Nidhi’s sister-in-law, Kiran, was injuries in the incident.
Police said one motorcycle (Ja 2 Pa 9438) was destroyed while the second one (Ja 1 Pa 435) was damaged in the arson. The two-wheelers were registered to Ramsworup Ramsagar Multiple Campus where Nidhi’s brother, Nawandra, is the campus chief.
The SLMM supporters also staged demonstrations in several places. Clashes erupted in some places between the SLMM activists and police.
The protesters also hurled stones at the houses of NC leaders Ananda Prasad Dhungana and Leela
Koirala at Bhanuchowk and Bramhapuri.
Superintendent of Police Rambhakta Joshi said two persons have been rounded on vandalism charge.
The SLMM has intensified its protest in the recent days, targetting the local level conventions of the NC.
The other Madhesi fronts protesting in the Tarai districts, including the Sanghiya Samabeshi Madhesi Gathabandhan, are also attempting to disrupt the NC conventions by barring the NC leaders from visiting their towns and villages.
The agitating Madhesi fronts shut down the market places and educational institutions in Janakpur on Monday to disrupt the NC assembly.
Local NC supporters have been enraged by the SLMM for targetting the the party leaders. They have warned of strong retaliation if the SLMM and other Madhesi fronts continue to behave the same way.
Komalkanta Jha, the NC Dhanusa secretary, condemned the arson and vandalism at the houses of NC leaders and warned they will fight back if the SLMM and others do not correct their attitude.
