A special probe committee formed by the Home Ministry to look into the organised gold smuggling on Thursday arrested Akbar Shah, who operates a restaurant at Pulchok-based Labim Mall.
Shah has been accused of being involved in the 33kg gold smuggling case. The committee is preparing to record the statement of Shah on Friday.
Restaurateur Shah is also the relative of media entrepreneur Jamim Shah, who was shot and killed at Lazimpat, Kathmandu on February 7, 2010. Akbar had worked as a long time associate of Jamim at Channel Nepal and Space Time Daily, the subsidiaries of Space Time Network owned by the latter.
On Tuesday, the probe team had detained businessman Bimal Poddar in connection to the 33kg gold smuggling case.
