Malla, who became Nepal’s first half century-maker in One Day International (ODI) cricket after scoring 51 against the Netherlands in the country’s maiden ODI match at the VRA Cricket Grounds in Amstelveen at the start of this month, has agreed a one-year deal with the bank as its envoy.
While the amount of the deal was not disclosed under mutual consent, Malla said he will be promoting Citizens Bank and get involved in other promotion activities of the bank. Citizens Bank Chief Executive Officer Rajan Singh Bhandari gave a piggy bank to Malla, who in return provided bat in a symbol of MoU exchange between the two parties.
The batting mainstay thanked the bank for the gesture. “Nepali cricket is under crisis in terms of administration. Because of the suspension of the cricket governing body, we have not been able to receive monthly pay cheque for the last 19 months,” said Malla. “To get this sort of support from a private organisation is a big relief for us. At the same time, it also gives a good message to other corporate houses and motivates players to do good for development of the game,” said Malla during the programme.
Bank Deputy CEO Ganesh Raj Pokharel said they were privileged to get associated with of the key cricketers of the country. “For the last few years, Nepali cricket has shown a huge amount of possibility for the future. Malla is the most talented batsman of Nepal and he has matured truly as a cricketer. We are proud to rope him in as brand ambassador,” said Pokharel.
