Identify and slap more taxes on litterbugs the Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lal Babu Pandit said on Saturday.
The minister urged imposing higher tax on people who litter public places with garbage to deter them for spoiling the city in his address at an event here.
The minister attended the ‘Bulletin launching’ event held as part of the 30th week of the Hanumante River Cleaning campaign, and the 80th week of the Manohara River Cleaning campaign here. Urging local governments to reduce the tax limit, the Federal Affairs and General Administration Minister, suggested imposing maximum tax on citizens polluting the environment by littering everywhere and giving the city an ugly image instead of helping to keep Nepal clean and beautiful.
He stressed the need to sending out the message to the rest of the world that Nepal is a beautiful, clean and green country. Lower House Member of Parliament Mahesh Basnet also spoke on the need to keep the city clean at the event.
Cleaning drive representatives said so far 309 tonnes of rubbish has been removed from Hanumante River and 35 metric tonnes of waste from Kathmandu Valley and Ring Road area on Saturday.
Volunteers from various groups did the cleaning as part of the 280th week of the Bagmati Cleaning Mega Campaign, the 235th week of the Rudramati Cleaning Campaign, the 80th week of the Manohara River Cleaning Campaign and the 76th week of the Ring Road cleaning.
They removed waste materials from various stretches of the main rivers and different places along the Ring Road in the Kathmandu Valley today as part of the cleaning drive.
