Dhangadhi Stars, one of the six franchises of the upcoming Dhangadhi Premier League (DPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament, on Monday signed sponsorship deal with Global College of Management.
The third edition of Nepal’s first ever auction-based franchise league is beginning from February 9 at the Fapla Cricket Ground. According to the deal, Global College will provide Stars with Rs 2 million in cash and kind. Stars, previously Team Chauraha Dhangadhi, are the two-time defending champions.
Stars owner Krishna Bohora and Global College Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Khagendra Ojha exchanged the memorandum of understanding (MoU) during a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Ojha said the reason behind their sponsorship was to give cricket environment a boost.
“The Nepali cricket team has shown a great possibility. Dhangadhi is doing good in cricket for the last few years and we hope our association with Stars will help in producing more athletes. This also comes as a part of our corporate social responsibility,” said Ojha. Bohora thanked Global College for the sponsorship. “We always wanted to contribute to the development of cricket. Its a coincidence that we are taking the responsibility of the local team. This sponsorship is a huge boost for us,” said Bohora.
National cricket team fast bowling allrounder Sompal Kami will lead the Stars for a second consecutive edition. “Its good to earn faith from a good institution. We don’t want to promise of claiming the title but will repay the college for their association giving 100 percent in the field,” said Kami.
Pawan Sarraf, Sunil Dhamala, Amit Shrestha, Bipin Khatri, Hari Bahadur Chauhan, Dipesh Shrestha, Raju Rijal, Robeen Chhetri, Dhiraj Shahi, Krishna Aair and Sandeep Rajali are domestic players in Stars squad. Each franchise must include two foreign recruit in its squad. CYC Attariya, Mahendranagar United, Rupandehi Challengers, Biratnagar Kings and Kathmandu Goldens are the five other teams in the DPL.
