Police have arrested three men in Janakpur, Dhanusha, for staging a fake abduction.
Ajaya Kumar Sah, 22, of Belauni in Janakpur-17 was taken into custody after he was found guilty of concocting his own abduction with the help of his friends, Samsad Nadaf, 20, of Janakpur-23, and Arbinda Yadav, 25, of Gadhimai Municipality-8 in Rautahat, to fleece Rs 1.5 million from his parents.
Organising a press meet at the District Police Office (DPO) on Friday, police said their misconduct was revealed when the police intensified their search to locate Sah, who had been at large in Kathmandu. Sah was out of contact from January 29.
On February 9, Sah’s mother, Rekha Kumari, had filed a complaint at the DPO stating her son’s kidnapping. Sah’s parents had also agreed to pay the ransom amount (Rs 500,000) to the kidnappers.
Tracing the mobile phone used by Nadaf and Yadav to place the ransom calls led the police to the duo, said SP Shekhar Khanal.
Following police intervention, the duo were asked to call Sah to Janakpur on the pretext of having received the ransom amount. Sah admitted to his role in the fake abduction.
According to police, Sah had planned to travel to Goa in India after extorting money from his parents.
