Dauphins Family of Cameroon crushed Jhapa XI 5-0 to enter the semi-finals of the Tilottama Gold Cup football tournament on Wednesday.
Yannick Owona, Pentenga, Nick, Dier Tina and Wiyik Wiyik scored a goal each in a comprehensive Dauphins victory. Dauphins are now closing in on a third title after winning the Pokhara Cup and Budha Subba Gold Cup football tournament. In the semi-final match on Friday, Dauphins will take on the hosts Rupandehi.
The sturdy Africans dominated Jhapa from the outset and Owona put them ahead in the 26th minute. He scored with an excellent head-dribbling before directing the ball into the nets. Jhapa managed to contain Dauphins in the first half with that single goal but the worst came in the second 45 minutes for them.
Pentenga extended the lead just five minutes after resumption scoring from the area. Dauphins were reduced to 10 men after Aurel Inyima was red-carded for a foul on Pujan Uparkoti in the 55th minute. Jhapa, however, failed to take the numerical advantage count as Dauphins continued to exert consistent pressure.
Nick brought up the third in the 73rd minute and two minutes Tina made it 4-0. With just two minutes left in the regulation time, Wiyik sealed the comprehensive victory smashing home a screamer from almost the centre line. Jhapa did manage to create scoring opportunities in the first half with their skipper Karna Limbu failing to convert few of them.
Jhapa coach Prabesh Katuwal admitted his side was no match to the African team. “They were strong and were moving really fast. We tried to create pressure and found rhythm but our players began to tire. I think we have to make more preparations while competing in tournaments like these,” said Katuwal.
In Thursday, the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ Division League champions Manang Marshyangdi Club will take on fellow top-tier outfits Chyasal Youth Club.
